Ukraine to Strengthen Punishments for Draft Dodging: What the Officer Proposes.
According to inkorr.com: Officer of the infantry battalion Andriy Illienko believes that the state should introduce 'legal coercion' and enhance responsibility for evading mobilization. He cites examples from the USA and Britain during World War II, noting that more attention should be paid to draft dodgers.
There should be a certain element of state coercion, legal coercion... It is unfair. A person who is already in the army, no matter who that person is, should not receive a heavier punishment than a draft dodger... - Illienko emphasized.
Andriy Illienko also notes that the number of volunteers to fill units is decreasing, as many do not want others to decide which unit they end up in.
Issue of Unauthorized Departure from the Unit
The officer also commented on the issue of replenishing units and the problem of unauthorized departure from the unit (UDU). He explained that this is not a typical situation but a result of the events of a large war, where military personnel may make decisions under various circumstances. Some of those who carried out UDU later return, but not all of them.
Illienko calls on the citizens of Ukraine to realize that in case of disobedience, some may end up in the occupying army, recalling an instance when his battalion captured a Ukrainian citizen.
In the context of the war in Ukraine, Andriy Illienko emphasizes the necessity of applying legal coercion from the state and strengthening criminal responsibility for draft dodgers. He also highlights the importance of being aware of the consequences of one's actions during this difficult time for all citizens.
