Three-Way Talks Underway in the United Arab Emirates

According to TSN.ua: Delegations from Ukraine, the United States, and Russia are engaged in trilateral negotiations in the United Arab Emirates on January 23. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed that the primary focus of the meeting is to discuss the terms for ending hostilities. The Ukrainian delegation currently includes:

  • Kyrylo Budanov
  • Sergiy Kyslytsya
  • David Arakhamia
  • Andriy Hnatov

On January 24, military experts will join the Ukrainian delegation, notably Chief of the General Staff General Andriy Hnatov and Deputy Head of the Main Intelligence Directorate Vadym Skibitskyi. President Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine's position remains unchanged, adding,

"They should have at least some answers from Russia by now."
These talks represent a rare high-level diplomatic engagement since the full-scale invasion began.

Primary Objective of the Negotiations

The primary goal of the discussions is to secure confirmation from the Russian side regarding the Kremlin's readiness to end the war. The Ukrainian President noted that it is premature to draw final conclusions about the substance of the talks. The Ukrainian side hopes for a constructive dialogue and clarity on subsequent steps.

These negotiations are taking place against the backdrop of the prolonged military conflict between Ukraine and Russia, which has been ongoing since 2014. The participation of the United States underscores the international support for Ukraine's pursuit of peace and stability. A successful outcome from these talks could significantly influence the future trajectory of the situation in the region and the relations between the participating nations.
