France and Ukraine Enter Joint Arms Manufacturing Agreement
According to UATV: On February 9, a Letter of Intent for the joint production of armaments was signed by Ukrainian Minister of Defense Mykhailo Fedorov and French Minister of the Armed Forces, Catherine Vautrin. This landmark agreement establishes a new framework for defense collaboration between the two nations, signaling a deepening of their strategic partnership. This move comes as Ukraine continues to bolster its defense industrial base against ongoing aggression.
The meeting also covered the potential transfer of additional Mirage fighter jets to Ukraine, which would significantly enhance its air force capabilities. Key priorities for defense cooperation were discussed, including the supply of:
- SAMP/T air defense systems
- Mistral portable missile systems
- Crotale short-range surface-to-air missiles
- ammunition for these systems
- Aster and SCALP missiles
Funding for these joint projects is expected to be secured through a European Union credit line and the SAFE program, which will help realize the outlined plans. The expanding scope of Franco-Ukrainian defense cooperation reflects the growing support for Ukraine from its European allies.
The signing of this document marks a significant intensification of military collaboration between Ukraine and France, which could substantially strengthen Ukraine's defensive capabilities. The involvement of European financial resources further demonstrates the commitment of international partners to support Ukraine in strengthening its defense potential and integrating into European security structures.
