Ukraine in the OSCE: Russia wants to form five regiments from North Korean military personnel.
Russia plans to form five motorized rifle regiments from North Korean military personnel. Each regiment will consist of 2-3 thousand people and will include representatives of ethnic minorities from the Asian part of the Russian Federation. This information was reported by Viktoria Kuvshynnykova, the permanent representative of Ukraine at international organizations in Vienna, during a meeting of the OSCE Permanent Council and Forum for Security Cooperation, which was dedicated to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
The information indicates that Russia plans to form five regiments from North Korean military personnel. Each regiment will be equivalent to a motorized rifle regiment and will consist of 2-3 thousand people. Kuvshynnykova also noted that North Korean military personnel will be integrated into units staffed by representatives of ethnic minorities from the Asian part of the Russian Federation.
According to the obtained information, up to 12 thousand North Korean military personnel are being prepared at five training grounds in the Eastern Military District of the Russian Federation, including 500 officers of the North Korean army and three generals from the General Staff.
The first military units of North Korea have already arrived in the combat zone. For example, on October 23, they were spotted in the Kursk region of the Russian Federation. According to the representative of Ukraine at the OSCE, three thousand North Korean troops have deployed at Russian training grounds in close proximity to the combat zone.
The use of North Korean military forces in Russia indicates very close cooperation between the two states, which violate the prohibition on the use of force under Article 2 of the United Nations.
Cooperation between Russia and North Korea contradicts UN Security Council resolutions that prohibit the supply of weapons to North Korea and conduct military training. Such a partnership between Russia and North Korea could have serious consequences for stability worldwide, not only in Ukraine but also in the entire Indo-Pacific region.
