In less than 48 hours, Ukraine managed to take control of more territory than during the entire counteroffensive in the summer of 2023. This was reported by The Telegraph.

According to the information from the authors of The Telegraph, the offensive in Kursk shows that Russia did not learn lessons from the capture of Rostov by PMC 'Wagner' during the rebellion in June 2023.

The article also notes that Russia did not significantly respond to the offensive, although Ukraine started threatening not only with destruction but also with the use of tactical nuclear weapons. This could have caused concern for Russian President Vladimir Putin, especially with the arrival of F-16 aircraft on the front lines.

According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, the Ukrainian army entered the territory of Kursk oblast around eight in the morning on August 6. By the evening of August 7, the Armed Forces of Ukraine took control of at least 11 settlements in Kursk, as well as the gas measuring station 'Sudzha', which provides half of the gas supply to Europe from Gazprom. This led to an increase in gas prices on the world market.

Russian public channels reported on the rapid advance of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in Kursk oblast, while the Ukrainian side remained silent. Media in Russia also claimed that Ukrainian forces occupied several settlements in the Sudzhansky district of Kursk oblast.

For the record, Russian propagandists admit that the situation in Kursk oblast is quite tense, Ukrainian forces are indeed actively advancing and conducting a military operation on the territory of the Russian Federation. The Russian Ministry of Defense also acknowledges that fighting with Ukrainian Armed Forces units continues in Kursk oblast.

However, as of now, there is no confirmed official information about the capture of territories by Ukraine. Nevertheless, it can be said that this could become the largest ground operation on the territory of Russia.

In addition, it became known that the head of the Russian General Staff, Valery Gerasimov, knew about the offensive of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in Kursk oblast two weeks in advance. However, he did not report this to the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin.
