Ukrainians will be able to claim reparations for Russia's crimes starting in 2025
The Minister of Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov announced that starting in 2025, Ukrainians will have the opportunity to claim reparations for any crimes committed by Russia. Applications will be accepted for 45 categories related to damage compensation. Applications for reparations will also be added for people who were forcibly displaced, suffered harm to their life and health, as well as for those whose cars and other property were damaged.
Fedorov noted that he already held a meeting with the team of the international Register of Damages for Ukraine, during which the results of work and plans for the next year were discussed. Currently, the main task is to strengthen the team and resolve legal and technical issues so that all categories of applications are available in the Register from the first half of 2025. He also mentioned that information about destroyed housing has been collected for the Register since April, and most applications have come from Donetsk, Kharkiv, and Kherson regions. He emphasized that this Register is an important mechanism for future reparations and serves as a basis for a clear understanding of the crimes committed by Russia against Ukraine.
Among the most common reasons for damages listed for submitting applications are: hostilities in the combat zone or along the front line, artillery shelling, aerial attacks, occupation of settlements, and the destruction of the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Station.
The Minister urged everyone who has become a victim of Russian actions to submit applications to the international Register of Damages through the Diia portal. He emphasized that the world must know about all the crimes committed by this terrorist country.
