Ukraine Faces Payment Freeze: Military Funding Secured, but Roads and Social Programs at Risk.
Warning of Potential Payment Suspension in Ukraine
According to Novyny.live: Andriy Motovylovets, first deputy head of the 'Servant of the People' faction, has warned that Ukraine may halt payments for social benefits and road expenditures, while military funding will remain untouched. He stated that the budget is currently being implemented, but the situation in parliament could become more complicated.
Parliamentary Turmoil
Motovylovets also highlighted internal faction issues, noting that
“it’s clear that after this, finding enough votes in parliament even for critical laws will be impossible”- Andriy Motovylovets. He described the situation as a 'perfect storm' within the 'Servant of the People' faction. He further emphasized that deputies under pressure should remember their oath:
“I simply explain to them, look, friends, you took an oath. You can submit your resignation, but no one will vote for it. The Rada must keep working”- Andriy Motovylovets.
Compounding the parliamentary crisis, five deputies have been charged in a case involving voting 'under instruction' in exchange for bribes. Motovylovets reported that about 40 deputies are ready to resign their mandates. During interrogations in the case, they were questioned about their voting patterns. In late December 2022, the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAPO) exposed a criminal scheme involving lawmakers, further straining the atmosphere in parliament.
As a result, funding for social programs and road expenditures in Ukraine remains under threat amid political instability and challenges facing parliament. With around 40 deputies willing to step down, passing critical decisions could become even more difficult. This political crisis demands urgent measures to stabilize the situation and ensure the budget is fulfilled.
