Ukrainian Drones Breach Four Layers of Air Defense, Inflict 90% Damage on Moscow Oil Refinery.
Strikes on the Moscow Oil Refinery
According to Espreso.tv: Ukrainian drone attacks have caused severe damage to the Moscow Oil Refinery, specifically hitting the ELOW-AVT-6 primary oil processing unit. On June 16, Ukraine’s Defense Forces struck the facility for the first time—located just 12 kilometers from the Kremlin. The level of destruction exceeded 90%, highlighting the seriousness of the impact.
Follow-Up Strikes and Consequences
Just two days later, on June 18, Ukraine’s Armed Forces launched another attack on the refinery, proving their ability to penetrate four rings of air defense systems to reach the target. These actions reflect a growing trend of Ukrainian forces conducting operations inside Russian territory. In response, Russian authorities have moved to bolster the refinery’s defenses.
A Pantsir surface-to-air missile and gun system has been deployed to protect the facility. Another Pantsir system has been spotted on a ramp near the Moscow Ring Road. Notably, the cabin of the Pantsir system is fitted with additional 'mangal'-style armor, underscoring the seriousness of the threat the refinery now faces.
These recent developments highlight an escalation in the conflict between Ukraine and Russia, with both sides showing increased readiness for aggressive action. Strikes on strategic assets inside Russia may signal a new phase of military operations, where both parties appear willing to take more decisive steps to achieve their objectives. This could have significant implications for the future trajectory of the conflict and regional security.
