Ukrainian trains help repair the road to Moldova - details.
Ukrainian trains have joined the recovery efforts on the railway in Moldova, using an experimental train that is not yet operating in Ukraine. This was reported on the social media of Railroad of Moldova.
Trains in Moldova
The Moldovan railway published photos of repair work on the Benderi-Bessarabia-Etulia-Dzhurdzhuleshti section, showing two sections of TEP70 locomotives from the Ukrainian Locomotive Engineering Company.
Repairs on the railway
Track repairs in the specified area have been ongoing since 2023. The restoration of 230 km of railway is planned for 108 million euros, allocated by the European Investment Bank and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. This road aims to connect the ports of Odesa region with the European Union, and the work is expected to be completed this year.
Private traction trains
The ULBK participated in an experiment to implement private locomotive traction, but actual cargo transport has not yet started. The company believes that the issue of allowing such trains on public railway tracks has already been worked out in Ukraine.
Currently, Ukrainian trains are participating in the reconstruction of the railway in Moldova, using a new type of train that may also appear on Ukrainian tracks. Repair works in Moldova have been ongoing for several years, and the completion of the project should improve the connection between the ports of Odesa region and the European Union.
