Ukrainian Combat Drone Held Back Russians for 6 Weeks: How a Robotic Machine Gun Changed Tactics.
According to ТСН: A remote-controlled ground drone with a machine gun held the front line for almost six weeks without the constant presence of infantry, restraining the advance of Russian troops.
Commander of the strike company NC-13 of the Third Army Corps of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Mykola Zinkevych, callsign 'Macar', shared details of this unique operation.
Description of the Drone and Its Functions
The tracked remote-controlled buggy of Ukrainian production Droid TW 12.7, equipped with a heavy machine gun M2 Browning caliber 50, moved between positions at the request of the command observation point and stopped enemy attacks. The technical maintenance of the drone was performed every two days. The crew, operating from 4 km away from the line of contact, spent about 4 hours preparing the drone for battle. After changing the batteries, this time was reduced to 2 hours.
Throughout the entire mission, the enemy was unable to infiltrate or occupy the Ukrainian position even once. The fighters successfully held their lines without any losses in personnel.
Technical Capabilities and New Modifications
The manufacturer DevDroid reports that the Droid TW 12.7 has an operational radius of up to 24 km, can be controlled via radio channel, and use elements of artificial intelligence for autonomous movement. Recently, the Third Army Corps published videos of battles involving this drone.
In addition to the version with a machine gun, modifications of the ground drone with 40mm grenade launchers Mk-19 and AGL-53 are already in use.
'The demand for these systems is indeed high. Ukrainian military personnel often spend their own money on such things. But we believe that this is the most profitable investment,' said Mykola 'Macar' Zinkevych.
It is worth noting that earlier, with the help of the ground robot, a wounded infantryman was successfully evacuated only three days after the injury.
The use of remote-controlled systems like the Droid TW 12.7 demonstrates new approaches in warfare where technology becomes an important ally on the battlefield. The effectiveness of these drones in restraining the enemy and saving the lives of soldiers confirms the significance of innovation in modern warfare.
