Frosts down to -18°C and power outages: how bad weather paralyzed the western regions of Ukraine

According to ТСН: Winter weather continues to significantly affect Ukrainian cities. In the Rivne region, 15-degree frosts are observed, a lot of snow is falling in Lviv, and Zhytomyr region is suffering from major power outages. Rescuers and energy workers are operating in an intensified mode.

Rivne region: fighting the frosts

In the Rivne region, the bad weather does not retreat. Utility services and local residents are trying to clear the snow from the roads and yard areas formed after heavy snowfalls. The situation is complicated by the severe cold: the temperature has dropped to -15°C.

Lviv: difficult situation on the roads

In Lviv, the weather has created 'temperature swings'. After a night snowfall, rain with snow began in the morning, leading to the formation of slippery areas on the roads. Despite the round-the-clock operation of snow removal machinery, the highways remain dangerous for traveling.

The worst situation is observed on the bypass road of Lviv, where trucks cannot overcome the climbs, leading to traffic stoppages in several areas. The city has also experienced major traffic jams.

Zhytomyr region: without electricity

In northern Ukraine, strong winds and snowfalls have caused serious problems with electricity supply. In the Zhytomyr region, fallen trees have severed power lines, leaving some settlements without electricity. Energy workers, together with rescuers, are trying to restore electricity supply throughout the night.

Bad weather in Dnipropetrovsk and Zaporizhzhia

Rescuers and police are clearing blocked roads in Dnipropetrovsk. Drivers are asked to avoid trips unless absolutely necessary and not to leave cars on the roadside. Blizzards and icy conditions are expected in the region over the next day. Zaporizhzhia has also suffered from snowfalls, where municipal workers are actively working on clearing roads and sidewalks.

More than twelve thousand tons of sand mixture and salt have been used for pedestrian zones, ensuring access to 'Points of Resilience', as the region has problems with electricity supply after attacks.

Forecast: frosts down to -18°C

Meteorologists warn of further cooling.

  • Western Ukraine: At night, the temperature will drop to -12...-18°C. Icy conditions on the roads will remain for a long time.

  • Left bank: A stormy wind with gusts up to 15–20 m/s is expected.

  • South and East: A new cyclone will bring wet snow, which will gradually turn into rain, creating a risk of road icing.
