Cyclone Ulli brings severe frosts to Ukraine: down to -23 degrees next week.
According to ТСН: The consequences of the southern Cyclone Ulli are being felt in Ukraine, bringing with it bad weather: rain, freezing rain, and blizzards. The coming days may become even more challenging as severe frosts are expected to last at least a week.
Synoptic conditions and weather forecast
Cyclone Ulli appeared due to a significant contrast of air masses: on one side, Arctic cold, and on the other – tropical warmth from the Mediterranean.
“This combination results in dangerous and varying weather in Ukraine: heavy snow in the west, blizzards, snow drifts on the roads, thunderstorms in the south, and in some areas – heavy rain. Temperature contrasts are also striking: Dnipro +6°, Odesa +10°, Simferopol +13°, and Lviv -5° frost,” said Postryhany.
Expectations for the coming days
According to forecasts, on January 8-9, a deterioration of weather conditions is expected in Ukraine. In particular, in the west, as well as in Vinnytsia and Zhytomyr regions, significant snow is forecasted – the snow cover increase will be from 10 to 25 cm. Wind gusts may occur, in western regions – up to 15-18 m/s.
On January 10-11, Arctic cold is expected to cover the northern part of the country. In the west and north, as well as in Vinnytsia and Cherkasy regions, temperatures will drop to -14-20 degrees. In some places, thermometers may show even -23 degrees. During the day, temperatures will vary from -9 to -15 degrees.
The weather conditions caused by Cyclone Ulli may pose difficulties in transportation and impact the daily lives of citizens. Forecasts indicate that severe frosts and snowfall may necessitate measures for safety on the roads and in households, so it is worth being prepared for changes in the weather.
