Ukrenergo: Russian strikes left thousands of Ukrainians without electricity.
According to inkorr.com: Ukrenergo reports a critical situation in Ukraine's energy system. Due to Russia's attacks on infrastructure on the morning of October 6, thousands of consumers have been left without electricity in the Sumy and Chernihiv regions. This is stated in Ukrenergo's post on Telegram.
The situation in Ukraine's energy sector after the Russian shelling on October 6, 2025
The biggest difficulties are observed in the city of Shostka and the surrounding areas of Sumy region, where emergency shutdowns have been implemented. In Chernihiv region, which is divided into two queues, local energy companies have introduced a shutdown schedule for some consumers. This was a result of nighttime drone attacks that damaged important facilities. Electricity consumption remains high: as of 9:30 on Monday, it exceeded the figures from last Friday by 1%.
Reasons for high electricity consumption in Ukraine on October 6, 2025
Energy professionals explain this situation by weather conditions: cloudiness has reduced the efficiency of household solar power plants, leading to increased load on the overall grid.
'The reason is the cloud cover in most regions. This leads to low efficiency in the operation of household solar power plants and accordingly increases the level of energy consumption from the overall grid', it is noted in Ukrenergo's message.
On October 5, the situation was even more complicated: in the evening, daily loading reached 6.9% higher than recorded on September 28. The main reason is a sharp drop in temperature, which activated the use of electric heaters. Experts emphasize that such fluctuations can threaten system stability, especially in autumn when the demand for heating increases.
Ukrenergo's advice on avoiding a collapse in electricity supply
To prevent a collapse, Ukrenergo urges consumers to use energy sparingly. Here are the main recommendations:
Avoid turning on several powerful appliances (boiler, heater, stove) simultaneously during peak hours from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM.
Check the disconnection schedules on the websites of the regional energy companies and in the apps.
Use energy-efficient devices: LED lamps, timers for heating.
In case of disconnection, report to the supplier's call center.
It should be noted that recently the head of Ukrenergo, Zaychenko, was dismissed from the position.
In this situation, it is important to follow Ukrenergo's recommendations to maintain the stability of the energy system. In conditions of increasing consumption and weather challenges, a conscious approach to energy resources is key to ensuring uninterrupted electricity supply for all consumers.
