The Federal Republic of Germany continues to provide assistance to Ukraine but faces two problems. The first problem is constitutional rules that limit German state debt and do not allow for an increase in the budget to provide greater assistance to Ukraine. This was stated by German political scientist Andreas Umland.

According to Umland, the assistance that Ukraine receives this year will be cut in half by 2025. Interest from frozen Russian assets will be used, so Germany believes that Ukraine does not need such large assistance. However, this issue may change, and not everything has been decided yet.

Umland also noted that Germany itself is discussing the need for budget constraints. Although Germany's national debt is large, it is still small compared to other Western countries.

The second problem mentioned by the guest of the program is the opinion of the majority of Germans regarding the supply of TAURUS missiles to Ukraine. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz refuses to provide this weapon due to public opinion that it will drag the country into war.

Umland explained that many Germans are concerned that this could lead to a Third World War rather than a regional conflict. However, he noted that Scholz's visit to Kyiv was likely his farewell as Chancellor, so no significant decisions are to be expected.

Umland also pointed out that Germans fear that if Ukraine starts using missiles against the Russian Federation, it will drag Germany into the war. But if it is used against targets on Ukrainian territory, then this is not so difficult for the Germans.
