First detected runaway black hole: it is traveling through space at a speed of 3.6 million km/h.
Supermassive black hole at a speed of 954 km/s
According to ТСН: Astronomers have for the first time detected a supermassive black hole that has left its home galaxy and is traveling through space at an astonishing speed of 954 km/s, which is about 0.32% of the speed of light.
The study showed that a long gas trail follows this black hole, although there was insufficient data to confirm its ejection.
Supermassive black holes, whose masses are millions or even billions of times greater than the Sun's, are usually found at the centers of most galaxies. Astronomers have long suspected that some of them may be expelled from their galaxies due to the merger of two galaxies forming a larger object. Now, for the first time, such a black hole that has escaped from its home has been discovered.
This supermassive black hole is moving at a speed of 3.6 million km/h or 1000 km/s, allowing it to be approximately 230,000 light-years away from its point of origin. This high speed has helped it overcome the gravitational influence of its galaxy.
Furthermore, the James Webb Space Telescope made another stunning discovery, sending images of a perfectly formed spiral galaxy that seems too 'mature' for its age.
These discoveries open new horizons in understanding the evolution of galaxies and natural phenomena in the Universe. Studying supermassive black holes and their impact on the surrounding cosmic space is important for astronomers as it may help unravel the mysteries surrounding galaxy formation and their objects. Such research highlights the immense role modern technologies, such as the James Webb telescope, play in our quest to understand the limitless cosmos.
