Russia Attacks Lviv with a Ballistic Missile Oreshnik for the First Time in the War.
Strike on Lviv with a Ballistic Missile
According to ТСН: On the evening of January 8, the army of the Russian Federation struck Lviv with a medium-range ballistic missile "Oreshnik" for the first time since the beginning of the war. This city is located less than 70 km from the border with the European Union.
Mayor of Lviv Andriy Sadovyi noted:
“This is the first case of using such a type of strike on Lviv during the full-scale war. This is a clear signal for our international partners: the war of Russia does not stop at any borders.”
He also emphasized that, according to military data, the missile was moving at an extremely high speed of about 13,000 km/h.
According to the Air Forces, at night Russia used various missiles, including 'Calibers' and hundreds of drones. A medium-range ballistic missile was launched from the Kapustin Yar testing ground in the Astrakhan region.
Although the main strike was directed at Kyiv and the region, strong explosions were also heard in Lviv during the air alert. Experts believe that the strike was made by the "Oreshnik" missiles. Authorities reported an 'arrival', but did not clarify which missile was used.
The Russian Ministry of Defense stated that the strike by the "Oreshnik" was taken in response to an alleged drone attack on President Vladimir Putin's residence in Valdai, claiming that critical objects in Ukraine were attacked.
This incident highlights the escalation of the conflict and the armed threats that Ukrainian cities are experiencing. The strike on Lviv is an important signal to the international community that the war continues, and demonstrates Russia's intentions to continue aggression, despite distances and borders. Everyone should pay attention to recent events and their consequences for regional security.
