The Moldovan government approved the introduction of a state of emergency in the energy sector due to Ukraine's decision on gas transit.

The Moldovan government approved the introduction of a state of emergency in the energy sector for 60 days due to the cessation of Russian gas transit through Ukraine starting January 1. This is reported by NewsMaker.
The situation arose due to changes in natural gas supply: starting January 1, 2025, the transit of Russian gas through Ukraine will cease.
Vice Prime Minister for Reintegration Oleg Serebryan reported that this situation threatens the stable supply of gas to the left bank of Moldova, particularly to Transnistria. Moldova has refused Russian gas and is currently purchasing it only on the European market. All the contracted volume of gas from 'Gazprom' comes through Ukraine to Transnistria, which is an important source of energy resources for Moldova.
Dividing gas supplies
Austria is preparing for a possible cessation of gas supplies from Russia and already has more than its annual consumption in gas storage facilities, making it impossible for Putin to blackmail and bring Austria to its knees.
Additionally, in the summer of 2023, the Czech Republic announced a complete refusal of Russian natural gas and significantly reduced imports. However, now the country is importing some Russian fuel through Slovakia.
Gazprom suffered losses
The Russian 'Gazprom', which was considered a market monopolist before the invasion of Ukraine, reported a net loss of $6.1 billion (583.1 billion rubles) for the first Time in 25 years at the end of 2023, making it the most loss-making company in Russia.
