Cash Assistance for Internally Displaced Persons in Sumy Oblast

According to Novyny.live: The UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) has launched a registration process for a cash assistance program in Ukraine's Sumy region. This initiative is designed to support individuals and families who were forced to flee their homes due to the ongoing war or other crises.

Registration for the financial aid opened on January 21. The program targets internally displaced persons and refugees in need of financial support. A key eligibility requirement is that the monthly income per person in a household must not exceed 6,320 Ukrainian hryvnias (UAH).

Mobile Registration Point

A mobile data collection unit will operate in the Chupakhivka community to facilitate convenient access for applicants. To schedule a registration appointment, individuals can call 063 182 68 38.

The assistance program prioritizes several vulnerable categories:

  • Single-parent families with children under 18 or members over 55;
  • Households consisting solely of elderly persons over 55;
  • Families of single elderly persons raising minor children;
  • Households that include persons with disabilities or severe illnesses.

The new UNHCR program aims to support those facing severe hardship due to the conflict, with a one-time payment of 10,800 UAH per eligible household. This aid is crucial as millions of Ukrainians remain displaced within the country, facing significant economic challenges. It is noted that the standard level of financial assistance per person remained at 3,600 UAH for the year 2026.

This initiative represents a vital step in supporting internally displaced persons, who often confront profound financial difficulties. Amidst war and economic instability, such programs can substantially improve the living conditions of those who have lost their homes. The effort also highlights the role of international organizations in providing social protection for Ukraine's most vulnerable populations.
