A Rare Sturgeon Caught in Croatia: The Fish Was Considered Extinct in the Danube.
According to inkorr.com: A fisherman on the Danube River in Croatia accidentally caught an extraordinarily rare sturgeon. This species of sturgeon, which was believed to be extinct in Ukraine and locally extinct in the Danube basin, was caught in the 'Mura-Drava-Danube' biosphere reserve. The fish, weighing 35 kg and measuring 1.76 meters in length, was returned to the water alive to help restore the population of this species.
Significance of the Sturgeon's Appearance
Experts note that the appearance of the sturgeon indicates that the river has the natural conditions for sturgeons and underscores the importance of preserving rivers and migration routes for the recovery of species on the brink of extinction.
Sturgeons, which have existed on the planet for over 200 million years, are currently under threat due to dam construction, destruction of spawning grounds, and poaching. Restoring the populations of these fish will require joint efforts and attention to the conservation of river ecosystems.
Hope for the Future
The capture of the sturgeon in the Danube in Croatia opens new prospects for the conservation of rare fish species through the protection of natural habitats and active restoration of river ecosystems. It is now extremely important to implement initiatives aimed at protecting and restoring the natural conditions for these species to ensure a better future for them.
