Odesa Mobilization Official Arrested for Soliciting Bribes.
Official Detained in Odesa on Bribery Charges
According to Novyny.live: An official from a district-level Territorial Recruitment and Social Support Center (TRC) in Odesa has been detained on suspicion of soliciting an illegal benefit. The 30-year-old clerk from the military registration and reservation department initially demanded $5,000 USD to assist a citizen with the mobilization process, later reducing the requested amount to $700.
Law enforcement officers apprehended the woman after she received the full agreed sum. Investigators have formally notified her of suspicion under Part 2 of Article 369-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which covers the solicitation of unlawful benefits. A court has ordered her to be held under house arrest as a preventive measure.
Legal Consequences and Ongoing Investigation
The article under which she is charged carries a potential penalty of up to five years' imprisonment. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities working to establish all the circumstances of the case. The Main Directorate of the National Police in the Odesa region continues its work on this matter.
This incident highlights persistent issues of corruption within state institutions, particularly in Ukraine's military registration and mobilization systems during the ongoing war.
Soliciting bribes in such sensitive matters can severely undermine public trust in the institutions responsible for national defense and security. The continuation of this investigation and any potential further arrests could represent a significant step in combating corruption within this critical sector.
