Trump on Russia's actions: Why Ukraine will not change its borders.
According to ТСН: The territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine, as well as the responsibility of the aggressor Russia, cannot be put on the table during negotiations. Peace must be fair.
Statement from Ukrainian representatives
This opinion was expressed by Iryna Mudra, Deputy Head of the President's Office, in an interview. She noted:
"I am not part of our negotiating delegation, but as an international lawyer, I understand the cost of compromises when faced with an aggressor state like Russia. The territorial integrity, sovereignty of the country and the responsibility of the aggressor should not be up for negotiation. Abandoning responsibility is not peace. It is an invitation to a new war."
Special tribunal and funding
The process of establishing a Special Tribunal is ongoing. According to Mudra, the European Union has allocated €10 million to start the work of a team in the Netherlands, which will be responsible for finding and equipping premises.
Negotiations and peace timelines
It is worth noting that the American "peace plan," which recently appeared, mentions significant territorial concessions from Ukraine. In particular, the plan includes the transfer of all eastern part of Donbas to Russia, including unoccupied territories.
U.S. President Donald Trump, responding to concerns from world leaders, expressed confidence that Ukraine will continue to lose control over territories in the Donetsk region, justifying potential territorial concessions by the necessity to save the lives of Ukrainians.
Ukraine's position
Ukrainian Ambassador to the U.S. Olga Stefanishyna emphasized that Ukraine does not consider the issue of changing borders. According to her, possible debates may only concern technical aspects of defining the "line of stop," but "changing Ukrainian borders is not something that can be the subject of negotiations."
It is currently important to understand that Ukraine categorically rejects any concessions regarding its borders. Government representatives emphasize that a just peace is possible only with the recognition of Ukraine’s sovereignty and Russia’s responsibility for aggression. This issue remains central in negotiations, as peace cannot be built on compromises that threaten the territorial integrity of the country.
