Honoring Oleksiy Vadatursky at ONTU
According to Novyny.live: A memorial plaque dedicated to Oleksiy Vadatursky, a Hero of Ukraine and founder of the agricultural company 'NIBULON,' was unveiled at the Odesa National University of Technology (ONTU) on June 12, 2023. The ceremony was held just ahead of the anniversary of his tragic death—Vadatursky was killed on the night of July 31, 2022, during a Russian missile strike on Mykolaiv. As part of the event, attendees watched the documentary 'The Bread Captain of Ukraine.'
According to Larysa Ivanchenkova, Vadatursky personally visited the university to identify pressing issues and provided support to resolve them. She emphasized that
“for us, Oleksiy Opanasovych was a true patriot and a person who did a great deal for the development of the university.”It was symbolic that the plaque was unveiled just before the anniversary of his death.
Oleksiy Vadatursky's Contributions
Vadatursky began his professional journey at ONTU, where he earned an engineering degree and developed his vision for Ukraine's future. As his son, Andriy Vadatursky, noted,
“this is where Oleksiy Vadatursky's professional path began. He gained his engineering education here, and it was here that his views and desire to build Ukraine, use modern technologies, and develop his country were shaped.”
Vadatursky transformed Ukrainian logistics. In 2021, NIBULON launched high-speed passenger service between Odesa and Vylkove. After the Zatoka bridge was damaged in 2022, NIBULON established a passenger route between Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi and Ovidiopol. Commenting on his impact, Oleksandr Haidu noted that
- “when seaports essentially stopped working, he found a way to build a grain terminal in Izmail. It was incredibly difficult, but he didn't stop and continued to develop the company even during the war.”
Overall, Oleksiy Vadatursky provided ONTU with approximately 100 million UAH in assistance, underscoring his significant contribution to the institution's growth. Honoring his memory marks a key step in preserving his legacy and remembering his achievements in Ukraine's economy and society.
The unveiling of the memorial plaque to Oleksiy Vadatursky at ONTU is not only a recognition of his personal contributions to the university and Ukrainian logistics but also a symbol of the importance of individuals who advanced the country's progress, especially during wartime. Remembering figures like Vadatursky helps preserve the memory of their accomplishments and inspires new generations to actively participate in rebuilding and developing Ukraine.
