Vandals Cut Down Cross from the Dome of a Ukrainian Church in Poland: Ambassador's Reaction.
According to inkorr.com: In Legnica, Poland, due to vandalism, the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church of the Assumption of the Holy Virgin suffered: the roof was damaged and the cross was cut from the main dome. This information was published by the Ukrainian ambassador to Poland, Vasyl Bodnar, on Facebook.
"Today, on the eve of a great Christian holiday - the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, we learned that unknown individuals damaged the roof and cut the cross from the main dome of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church of the Assumption of the Holy Virgin in Legnica. The Embassy of Ukraine in the Republic of Poland has already urgently sent a note to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland, and the General Consulate of Ukraine in Wrocław has appealed to local law enforcement agencies with a demand to take all necessary measures to respond and hold the criminals accountable," said the ambassador.
He urged Polish law enforcement to thoroughly investigate this act of vandalism directed against the Ukrainian community and ensure appropriate punishment for the guilty. Bodnar also appealed to the public to actively respond to anti-Ukrainian manifestations.
Increase in the Number of MP's UOC Parishes Abroad
In 2024, the number of parishes of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate abroad has practically reached 100. The rector of the Open Orthodox University, Hryhoriy Kovalenko, considers this trend dangerous for the Ukrainian Orthodox community.
As a result of vandalism in Legnica, the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church suffered, with a damaged roof and a cut cross. The Ukrainian ambassador to Poland reacted strongly, urging law enforcement to act and the public to be aware in combating anti-Ukrainian manifestations. It is important that such incidents do not go unnoticed, as they concern not only culture but also the self-identity of the Ukrainian community abroad.
