According to ТСН: The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine voted for a bill that establishes a nationwide minute of silence as a daily event on a legislative level. This decision was supported by 314 members of parliament.

Member of Parliament Yaroslav Zheleznyak reported this.

"The Rada voted (only in the first reading) on #14144 — establishing a nationwide minute of silence as a daily commemorative event at the legislative level," the politician's statement indicated.

According to the information, this bill requires government bodies and local self-government to inform the public about the minute of silence through media and civil defense alert systems.

What does the bill on the minute of silence propose?

The bill proposes amendments to the Law of Ukraine "On the Principles of State Policy of National Memory of the Ukrainian People" and the Civil Protection Code. In particular, the document establishes the daily nationwide minute of silence at 9:00 to honor the memory of Ukrainian citizens who died as a result of Russian armed aggression.

According to the initiative, government authorities and local self-government must ensure informing about the start and end of the minute of silence at the enterprises, institutions, and organizations subordinate to them. The announcement of the nationwide minute of silence will be made through media, regardless of the form of ownership, as well as through notification and information systems in the field of civil defense.

The parliamentary press service noted that the adoption of the bill at the national level would allow for proper honoring of the memory of fallen soldiers and civilians, promote the formation of a culture of memory, as well as instill respect for heroes and a sense of responsibility among the living for those who gave their lives.

Moreover, the law aims to strengthen social unity through a daily common ritual, which will be understandable and acceptable to citizens regardless of their political, religious, or social views.

It is expected that the document will also serve as an additional communication tool for disseminating information about the Russian-Ukrainian war and its victims, as well as positively impact social cohesion, community resilience, and corporate social responsibility of businesses.

The adoption of this bill is an important step for society, as it not only emphasizes respect for the memory of the fallen but also contributes to the formation of unity. The daily minute of silence will become a new tradition that will help people realize the depth of the losses brought by the war and collectively support each other in this difficult time.
