Almost 500 thousand units of weapons have disappeared in Ukraine: where the most losses occurred.
According to inkorr.com: According to information from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the number of lost and stolen weapons has increased from 270.9 thousand to 491.4 thousand units. This is almost a doubling of the figures from last year, which raises serious concerns. Data analysis shows that in 94% of cases the weapons were lost, and in 6% - stolen.
Among the most commonly lost types of weapons, assault rifles (over 149 thousand units) and hunting rifles (over 135 thousand) can be highlighted. The largest number among assault rifles consists of AK-74 models (over 99 thousand cases) and Makarov pistols (over 21 thousand). It is important to note that more than half of the lost weapons (58%) are of foreign origin, while domestic samples account for only 17%.
Regions with the most significant weapon losses
In large cities and regions where active hostilities are taking place or where occupations have occurred, the largest number of lost and disappeared weapons is recorded. The most cases have been documented in Kyiv (78.5 thousand units), followed by Donetsk (72.2 thousand), Mykolaiv (50.1 thousand), Kyiv region (50.1 thousand), and Zaporizhzhia region (36.9 thousand).
Ukraine plans to conclude agreements on controlled arms exports. President Volodymyr Zelensky has reported that agreements are already in place with the USA, Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. He added that the export of some types of weapons that are in surplus could create additional financial opportunities for the production of necessary systems.
The increase in firearm losses and thefts in Ukraine recently raises serious concern. Among the regions with the highest losses are Kyiv, Donetsk, and other areas associated with active conflicts. Ukraine's plans to conclude agreements with other countries regarding the controlled export of weapons may help provide additional resources for the development of the defense industry and strengthen the country's defense capabilities.
