A participant in the Russian-Ukrainian war sentenced in Uzbekistan for killing 10 Ukrainian soldiers.

An Uzbek court sentenced a citizen of the country to four years and two months of restricted freedom for signing a contract with the Russian army and participating in the war in Ukraine. This was reported by the website 'Gazeta.uz'.
According to the Criminal Code of Uzbekistan, it is prohibited for Uzbek citizens to serve in the armed forces and other law enforcement agencies of foreign states.
In June 2023, this man signed a contract in Moscow, where he was temporarily working. Under the terms of the contract, he was promised a monthly salary of 450 thousand rubles, but in reality he received only two payments of 150 thousand rubles and then the payments stopped.
This man participated in combat actions in Shakhtarsk and Bakhmut, claiming to have killed more than 10 Ukrainian soldiers. In December 2023, he returned to Uzbekistan and voluntarily surrendered to the police. The court took his voluntary surrender into account as a mitigating circumstance.
The authorities of Central Asian countries emphasized that citizens are responsible for participating in the war against Ukraine. Earlier in October, an Uzbek citizen was sentenced to three years in prison, and in September, a mercenary from the 'Wagner' company was sentenced to restriction of freedom, although he did not participate in the war but took part in the coup and march on Moscow.
Earlier, the Russian Investigative Committee and the FSB detained a citizen of Uzbekistan who is suspected of undermining Russian General Igor Kirilov.
Moreover, Uzbekistan refused to join an economic union with Russia, as reported by 'Gazeta.uz'.
