According to TSN.ua: A 21-year-old Ukrainian woman, Kateryna Tovmash, was murdered in the United States on February 14, 2023, in the town of Vass, North Carolina. Her 28-year-old boyfriend, Matthew Wade, was also killed. According to reports, the perpetrator was Kateryna's former partner, who had previously threatened her. This marks the second killing of a Ukrainian woman in the US in just six months, raising significant concerns within the immigrant community.

Kateryna Tovmash was originally from Bila Tserkva in the Kyiv region, where she grew up in a family with two sisters and three brothers. Following the outbreak of war in Ukraine, the Tovmash family fled to Germany in the spring of 2022. Kateryna had been living in the United States for approximately six months, having spent part of that time in Alaska before her death in North Carolina.

Details of the Murder

The details of the killing point to a toxic relationship that ended fatally. According to Kateryna's brother, Mykhailo Tovmash, her grandmother and children ran toward the sound of gunshots.

"My sister tried to perform CPR, but Kateryna was already dead," he stated.
It is known that the murderer also planned to take his own life, as revealed by Kyrylo Pryshchepchuk.
