Scientists have found out why the greenhouse effect is catastrophically intensifying – WP.
Scientists have discovered that methane, which is one of the most dangerous greenhouse gases, has started to increase in the atmosphere. This gas is more powerful than carbon dioxide and can significantly increase the planet's temperature. According to the study, the cause of the methane increase is microbes that live in the stomachs of cows, on agricultural fields, and wetlands. These microbes can release even more methane, causing a feedback loop. Previously, scientists believed that the main cause of methane growth was the use of natural gas. However, new research shows that microbes play a larger role. Scientists claim that it is necessary to reduce methane emissions from controlled sources such as agriculture and fossil fuel use.
Microbes are responsible for the increase in methane levels
According to The Washington Post article, scientists have discovered that the level of methane, which is a powerful greenhouse gas, is increasing in the atmosphere. Scientists believe that the cause of this increase is microbes. They live in the stomachs of cows, on agricultural fields, and wetlands. These microbes release methane, which causes a feedback loop and further increases methane levels. Over the past 15 years, methane levels in the atmosphere have risen, indicating an increase in methane emissions from microbes.
The methane problem for the climate
Methane is one of the most dangerous greenhouse gases because, in the short term, it is more dangerous than carbon dioxide. Methane levels in the atmosphere can significantly increase the planet's temperature. One of the main reasons for the rise in methane levels is microbes that live in the stomachs of cows, on agricultural fields, and wetlands. These microbes release methane, which causes a feedback loop and further increases methane levels in the atmosphere.
