Ukraine's Parliament Rejects Porn Decriminalization: What Remains Illegal.
Bill to Decriminalize Pornography Fails to Pass
According to Novyny.live: On May 28, Ukraine's Verkhovna Rada voted against a bill that sought to decriminalize pornography for adults. The proposed legislation aimed to eliminate criminal liability for the consensual production and distribution of adult content. Although 207 lawmakers supported the initiative, it fell short of the votes needed for approval.
Proposed Changes to the Criminal Code
The amendments targeted Article 301 of Ukraine's Criminal Code. Under the proposal, criminal penalties would have remained in place for producing or sharing content involving minors, as well as for coercing participation in pornographic material. Additionally, the bill would have specifically criminalized:
- filming individuals without their consent;
- content featuring violence, animals, or other cruel perversions;
- pimping and sexual exploitation.
Despite some backing, the decriminalization bill for adult pornography failed to clear the Verkhovna Rada. This outcome highlights the sensitivity and complexity surrounding adult content regulation in Ukraine. The rejection may reflect conservative attitudes within both society and the political landscape, shaping how such legislative efforts are received. It also underscores ongoing debates about balancing human rights protections with ethical considerations in modern media.
