Massive Blackouts in Dnipropetrovsk and Zaporizhzhia: Consequences of Russian Attacks and Weather Cyclone

According to ТСН: Significant power outages were recorded in Zaporizhzhia, Dnipro, and Kryvyi Rih during the evening of January 7, 2026, due to Russian attacks. As of 11 PM, emergency blackouts continue due to strikes by Russian drones and missiles, and there are also reports of problems with water and heating supply. Power outage schedules are in effect for the day, but the attacks have caused widespread blackouts.

Massive Blackout in Dnipropetrovsk Region

As of 11:30 PM on January 7, Dnipropetrovsk region remains without electricity, water, and heating.

“Attention Dnipropetrovsk region. There are currently no forecasts regarding the restoration of power supply. If you have water at home now — stock up. Especially the Pavlohrad and Synelnykove districts, as the enterprise 'DZD' is also de-energized. I remind you that the map of Resilience Points can be found in 'Diia',” urged Lukashuk.

Local residents report mass buying of water in Dnipro stores.

In the Ministry of Energy, it was confirmed that as a result of the attack on the energy infrastructure of Dnipropetrovsk and Zaporizhzhia regions, they are almost completely without power.

“This evening, Russian troops carried out another strike on the energy infrastructure of Ukraine. As a result of the attack, Dnipropetrovsk and Zaporizhzhia regions are almost completely de-energized,” stated the announcement.

Zaporizhzhia and Region without Electricity, Hospitals Operating on Generators

The massive attack by Russia caused serious disruptions in the energy system of Zaporizhzhia region. According to the head of the OVA, Ivan Fedorov, emergency electricity supply restrictions have been introduced in the region.

Energy workers of 'Zaporizhzhiaoblenergo' are currently trying to stabilize the situation. To ensure the functioning of the city, medical institutions and water supply facilities have been urgently switched to autonomous power sources (generators).

According to local residents, most areas of Zaporizhzhia are again without light, water, and heating. Additional 'Resilience Points' are being opened in the region to support the population.

“Limit the use of mobile communication. It is operating in emergency mode,” urges the local Zaporizhzhia OVA.

All base stations are being switched to battery power, which will last for approximately 8 hours.

Emergency Outages in Kryvyi Rih

The enemy's attack on the city led to an emergency shutdown of boiler houses and pumping stations. Although energy workers managed to restart over 30 boiler houses, the heating system has encountered serious problems.

“We are recording water loss in the heating system at the level of 200 tons per hour. This is a direct result of breaks due to pressure fluctuations,” noted Vilkul.

Emergency teams are working in an increased mode, locally disconnecting damaged areas for repairs.

“Serious emergency power outages may occur. In case of emergency, please fill up on water and charge your devices. Everything that can be maintained on generators — we will hold,” said the head of the city defense council, Oleksandr Vilkul.

Critical facilities (hospitals, water supply) are being switched to generators as needed, and a network of ‘Resilience Points’ has been set up in the city.

It should be noted that due to the power cuts in Dnipropetrovsk and Zaporizhzhia, the 'UZ' has deployed reserve thermal locomotives for several trains. The railway infrastructure is operating on generators, and stations are provided with stable communication and energy.

It has become known that flights No. 734 (Kyiv-Dnipro), No. 37 (Zaporizhzhia-Kyiv), No. 119 (Dnipro-Holm), and No. 79 (Dnipro-Lviv) are delayed.

In addition to combat actions, the energy system will also be affected by bad weather: a powerful cyclone will arrive in Ukraine in the morning of January 8, which could lead to new blackouts outside the schedules.

The events unfolding in Zaporizhzhia, Dnipro, and Kryvyi Rih indicate serious challenges faced by regions during armed aggression. Power outages and water supply problems complicate the lives of residents, but local authorities are actively working to restore energy systems and ensure the functioning of cities. Only time will tell how quickly stability can be restored in the regions, especially considering the approaching storm that may lead to further difficulties.
