Honoring the Defenders of Luhansk Airport

According to Espreso.tv: Running for six weeks, this exhibition will open just before Ukraine’s Day of Statehood and Independence Day, underscoring the significance of these events in the nation’s collective memory. It pays tribute to those who defended Luhansk Airport, participants of the Luhansk Euromaidan, volunteers, and civilians.

Roman Seheyda, a member of the 80th Separate Airmobile Regiment and a defender of Luhansk Airport, entered the facility on April 8, 2014. His personal account and involvement during that period are crucial for understanding the history and struggle to uphold Ukraine’s territorial integrity. As Roman Seheyda stated:

“None of us fell for such provocations because we are on our own land, we are defending our land, the Luhansk region—this is Ukrainian territory.”

Exhibition’s Purpose

The goal of the exhibition is to restore historical memory of the events of 2014, a point reinforced by Oleksandr Alferov:

“The exhibition is designed to revive the historical memory of the events of 2014.”

This event will serve as a platform to honor those who fought for Ukraine’s independence and territorial integrity, while also educating the public about pivotal moments in modern history.

More than just a commemoration of the fallen, this exhibition aims to raise public awareness about the fight for Ukraine’s independence. Scheduled during a historically significant period, it is intended to strengthen national identity and preserve the memory of Ukrainians’ heroic resistance against aggression. As such, the event is both timely and essential for shaping the nation’s collective memory.
