Famous Ukrainian neurobiologist Ihor Zyma and his wife were killed in Kyiv due to a Russian drone attack. The incident occurred in their house on January 1, 2025.
The scientist's death was announced by Daria Dushechkina, the wife of the first secretary of the Ukrainian embassy in the Republic of Kenya. She reported that the family died in bed during the morning shelling of the capital.
Timur Tkachenko, head of the Kyiv city military administration, reported that two people died as a result of the attack. Efforts to eliminate the consequences of the shelling are ongoing in the Pechersk and Svyatoshyn districts.
Andriy Yermak, head of the President's Office, stated that at least four drones attacked houses in downtown Kyiv. Law enforcement agencies and experts are conducting an investigation.
Ihor Zyma worked as a lecturer at the Institute of Biology and Medicine of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv and had many years of scientific experience. As a result of the attack, seven more people were injured, including two pregnant women.
