Visit of the Icelandic Foreign Minister in Kyiv

On Tuesday, January 7, the Icelandic Foreign Minister Þórhildur Katrín Gunnarsdóttir entered Ukraine for the first time in her position. The news was published by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.

The head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry Andrii Sybiha noted that Reykjavik will continue to support Ukraine. Iceland is providing assistance in the areas of demining, logistics, training of Ukrainian military, and initiatives for the rapid procurement of weapons.

'We are grateful to Iceland for their contribution of over 2 million euros to the production of Ukrainian weapons using the 'Danish model'. We hope for further growth in Icelandic investments in the Ukrainian defense industry,' he said.

Sybiha highly appreciated Iceland’s efforts in prosthetics for wounded Ukrainian soldiers and support for Ukraine's energy system.

Resignation of the US Deputy Secretary of Defense

The official from the US Department of Defense, Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Russia, Ukraine, and Eurasia Laura Cooper has resigned. This was reported by Politico.

'Cooper, who has worked at the Pentagon for more than 20 years, is best known for her testimony before Congress regarding the rebuttal of claims by department leadership during the Trump impeachment related to Ukraine. The Department of Defense did not explain why Cooper resigned, but due to her testimony and uncertainty regarding Ukraine policy under the new president, the Pentagon may have become an uncomfortable place for her,' the report states.

It is noted that Cooper played a significant role in coordinating massive deliveries of American military aid to Ukraine since the full-scale invasion of Russia in 2022. However, Pentagon and State Department employees who worked with her expressed fears that under Trump's leadership, she might become a target for persecution due to her testimony and ties to Biden's Ukraine policy, the publication reports.

UAF attack on the command post of the Russian brigade

The Armed Forces of Ukraine struck accurately at the command post of the 810th Separate Marine Brigade of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation in the Bilyi Kursk region. This was reported by the General Staff of the UAF.

'Such fire attacks are an essential part of the combat operations of the Armed Forces of Ukraine units involved in combat operations in the territory of the Russian Federation,' the General Staff emphasized.

The military headquarters stressed that the Armed Forces of Ukraine will use all available means to eliminate armed formations of the Russian Federation that threaten the safety of the citizens of Ukraine.

Record of Ukrainian pilot - destruction of six cruise missiles

A Ukrainian pilot has, for the first time in history, destroyed six Russian-made cruise missiles in a single combat sortie on an F-16 fighter jet. This occurred during a massive missile-drone attack in December 2024. This was stated by former representative of the UAF Air Force, Colonel Yuriy Ignat.

'During the massive missile-drone attack in December 2024, he did something incredible! For the first time in history, an F-16 fighter jet destroyed six enemy cruise missiles in one combat sortie!' said the report.

Ignat commented that cruise missiles are a primary target for Ukrainian fighters. According to him, intercepting such important targets is a challenging task for the pilot.

Law on the list of terrorist organizations

President Volodymyr Zelensky signed a law on the formation and support of the list of terrorist organizations. This was stated on the parliament's website.

Organizations engaged in terrorist activities on the territory of Ukraine and/or abroad, as well as those posing a threat to national security, will be included in this list.

As explained in the Verkhovna Rada, organizations will be included in this list regardless of the presence or absence of legal status, registration by authorized bodies of Ukraine or foreign states.
