The deferment for large families will disappear: who will lose the right to 'immunity' from mobilization.
Changes in the status of large families regarding mobilization
According to Novyny.live: In 2026, the status of large families regarding mobilization changed in Ukraine, as the automation of processes affected the right to deferment from conscription. Previously, the status of a large father was considered 'immunity' from mobilization, but the new rules require financial obligations to be fulfilled in order to maintain this right.
New requirements for deferment
According to the new requirements, the right to deferment for large men has become dependent on payment discipline. The system now checks financial obligations daily. Important indicators that lead to the cancellation of deferment include:
- Debt amount
- Duration of delay
- Penalties
If the debt amount exceeds 10,400 hryvnias, this leads to the cancellation of the deferment. Moreover, the absence of payments for more than 90 days is also grounds for losing the right to deferment. In case the debt remains unpaid for a year, a 20% penalty is applied to it.
The change in status occurs without warnings, which can create difficulties for large families. In particular, two risk groups fall under this new system: parents of children from different marriages and stepfathers raising stepchildren. According to preliminary estimates, up to 20,000 large men may fall under mobilization due to the new requirements, which will significantly affect their families and social status.
Thus, the new rules for deferment for large families in Ukraine indicate significant changes in the mobilization system that require careful attention from those who are subject to these requirements. The changes may have far-reaching consequences for families, as the deferment, which previously provided certain protection, has now become dependent on financial discipline. This may lead to increased social tension and challenges for large families already facing numerous difficulties in the country's military situation.
