The war of the Russian Federation against Ukraine has ceased to be local - expert.
Ukraine calls on the world to adhere to international law
Ukraine emphasizes the necessity of restoring the power of international law, otherwise the world will fall into chaos. Due to Russia starting the war, the conflict has become non-local. For this reason, Ukraine appeals to international law.
This was stated by the president of the Analytical Center 'Politics' Oleg Lisny in a program on the FREEДОМ channel.
'International law is not just words and tomes written collectively. It has managed to preserve long-term peace on this planet. Although there have been various conflicts, they were local. Now, however, the conflict extends beyond Europe, especially considering the situation with North Korea. The aggressor is inclined to seize new territories. Therefore, it is fair that Ukraine calls for establishing a just peace based on international law. After all, this concerns not only Ukraine but the overall restoration of the power of international law,' emphasized the political scientist.
He believes that, in this situation, both military force and effective diplomacy are needed to influence Russia.
'Only then will Russia start to listen. If one component is missing, for example, the military one, the Russian Federation views this as weakness and continues to dictate its terms. We have exactly this situation now. We understand the goals of the Russian Federation. It needs more than Ukraine does, but Ukraine is the first step,' the expert emphasized.
According to Oleg Lisny, the war with the Russian Federation shows that dictatorship currently has more power than the civilized world.
'This is strange, especially when comparing GDP levels, population, and other indicators,' added the speaker.
The political scientist believes that, for now, Ukraine's allies do not have a unified position regarding Russia.
'Russia must lose this war. Ukraine formulates its position this way, while the West aims to prevent Russia from winning and Ukraine from losing. These are entirely different positions. In this case, all sides feel some discontent but do not want to lose. There is a more radical approach: Russia should not exist in its current form. When this is said in the West, the reaction is almost shock. They say that if Russia disappears, we will lose control over nuclear weapons and will not be able to control them. But the terrorist organization that is actually called Russia already possesses nuclear weapons,' the speaker noted.
'It is precisely this multifacetedness of positions regarding the war that gives an advantage to our enemies. Because in Russia, in the 'axis of evil,' positions are more or less united. They do not adhere to international law and believe they have the right to dictate terms due to their possession of nuclear or other weapons. Therefore, we find ourselves in such a situation now. But this will not last forever; we must be realists,' Lisny concluded.
