The war has claimed over 340 artists and journalists: the scale of losses.
Losses in media and cultural sectors due to the war with Russia
According to inkorr.com: Since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022, 232 artists and 113 journalists, both Ukrainian and foreign, have died as a result of hostilities. This information was provided by the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy.
"These data not only reflect the extent of the losses but also remind us of the tragic pages of our history. Just as in the 1920s – early 1930s, the Stalinist regime destroyed a generation of Ukrainian artists, so today Russia is deliberately destroying the cultural elite of Ukraine," the ministry emphasized.
- Journalists who are still working in Ukraine continue to create important news, investigations, and reports in high-risk conditions.
- They document the events of the war to provide Ukraine and the world with reliable information about what is happening.
Media workers are collecting undeniable evidence of the aggressors' crimes around the clock and highlighting the strength, courage, and heroism of our defenders, the Ministry of Culture stated.
'Systematic crimes against journalists and media committed by Russia pose a serious threat to freedom of speech and information security, undermining democratic values and human rights'
The reporting on the numerous losses among artists and journalists due to Russian aggression indicates significant damage in the cultural and information sectors of Ukraine. Journalists and artists are heroically fulfilling their mission on the front line, providing objective information about military events and the crimes of the occupiers.
