Ukrainian military executed a maneuver to preserve forces and equipment
The military command gave permission for a maneuver to withdraw Ukrainian defenders' units from the city of Vuhledar. This was done to preserve personnel and combat equipment for further actions. This was reported by the Operational-Strategic Group of Troops "Khortytsia".
The rapid attack of the enemy led to heavy losses of Ukrainian military. However, Russian forces could not hold the city of Vuhledar.
"In an attempt to take the city under control at any cost, the enemy used reserves for flank attacks, which greatly exhausted the Ukrainian Armed Forces units. As a result, the city was at risk of encirclement," the statement said.
Previously, there was information about the occupation of the city of Vuhledar in the Donetsk region by the Russian army. Active fighting continues almost in the center of the city.
The Institute for the Study of War also confirmed information about the capture of Vuhledar by Russian troops. According to the institute, the occupiers took the city after the retreat of Ukrainian forces.
The military conducted a planned withdrawal from Vuhledar to avoid encirclement. According to Russian sources, the withdrawal of Ukrainian forces began at the end of September 30.
