Financial Support for Wounded and Ill Ukrainian Service Members.
Pay and Allowances During Medical Treatment
According to Novyny.live: Ukrainian military personnel receiving treatment for illness or injury are entitled to financial support, the terms of which depend on the length of treatment and decisions by military medical commissions. These payments are maintained during periods of in-patient hospital care, convalescent leave, and post-injury recovery.
For the first four months of treatment, service members receive pay based on their last held rank and position. After this initial period, continued payment requires a formal assessment and conclusion from a Military Medical Commission (MMC). This review must occur no later than four months from the start of treatment. The total consecutive period for medical treatment or convalescent leave cannot exceed 12 months.
Additional Combat Injury Compensation
Service members undergoing treatment for combat injuries are also eligible for an additional compensation payment, commonly referred to as 'combat pay'. This supplemental payment is provided during in-patient treatment and convalescent leave for severe injuries. Following the completion of in-patient care, the one-time payment of 100,000 Ukrainian hryvnias continues only if the individual is placed on convalescent leave due to a severe wound. Standard pay is also provided during any subsequent treatment directly related to the original injury.
If a service member does not receive due payments, they should submit a formal report to the commander of their military unit. It is crucial to attach a copy of the official document detailing the circumstances of the injury. This system ensures that military personnel have access to financial support, which can be vital during treatment and rehabilitation.
Providing for service members during medical treatment is a critical aspect of social protection, as it helps maintain their financial stability during a difficult period.
Understanding these rights and procedures is essential for the well-being of service members during recovery. This framework highlights the importance of efficient processing by Military Medical Commissions to ensure timely access to benefits, a key concern for forces engaged in prolonged conflict.
