The Story of 'Mujahid'

According to UATV: The story of a Ukrainian National Guard serviceman with the call sign 'Mujahid' stands as a powerful testament to the courage and dedication of Ukraine's defenders. Originally from the Luhansk region, he chose to defend Ukraine after Russian forces occupied his hometown. When Russia launched its full-scale invasion, 'Mujahid' did not stand aside but resolved to protect his country.

At 16, he was forced to flee his home due to the threat of occupation. Conscripted for mandatory service in 2020, he became an infantryman with the 92nd Separate Mechanized Brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces following the full-scale aggression. His service placed him in the midst of intense combat. In 2023, he sustained a severe injury during a battle in Kleshchiivka.

"A comrade was wounded, I went to carry him up to get bandaged, and a 120mm mortar shell hit. It threw me into a tree, damaging my spine and knee," he recalls of that moment.

Combat and Challenges

In the summer of 2025, 'Mujahid' transferred to the 5th Slobozhanska Brigade 'Scythian' of the National Guard of Ukraine. During combat operations, he participated in the capture of 'Bunker 302,' where he and his brothers-in-arms encircled enemy positions.

"We pushed them beyond the ring road, and our task was to liberate Bunker 302. We entered, surrounded it from the flanks, and drove them out. We captured 19 Russians, three of whom were Chechen 'Kadyrovites,'" recounts 'Mujahid'.

He emphasizes that the 'Russian world' is profoundly dangerous and does not want his daughter to witness the horrors he saw in his own childhood.

"This is why I am here," he states.

'Mujahid's' story is evidence of the unbreakable spirit of Ukrainian soldiers who, despite dire circumstances, continue to fight for their country's freedom and independence. His personal journey reflects the complex reality of a nation where many defenders hail from the very eastern regions that were first seized by Russian forces. This narrative is a crucial part of the context of the ongoing war in Ukraine, which began with the initial invasion in 2014. It illustrates not only individual acts of heroism but also the broad spectrum of trauma and loss endured by Ukrainians throughout the conflict. The importance of such testimonies lies in their power to shape national memory and sustain the morale of a society fighting for its sovereignty.
