Higher Education Bonus for Ukrainian Armed Forces Personnel: Required Documents for Payment Recalculation.
Financial Compensation for Ukrainian Armed Forces Service Members
According to Novyny.live: Service members of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) are entitled to full financial compensation, which includes an additional payment for holding a higher education degree. To have these payments recalculated, however, they must submit specific documents verifying both their educational credentials and military status. Military pay is divided into basic and supplementary allowances, which can vary based on several factors.
In one notable case, the Hetman Petro Sahaidachnyi National Army Academy did not recognize a service member's higher education during retraining courses. This oversight could affect how their total compensation is calculated. Meanwhile, lawmaker Nina Yuzhanina has indicated that any potential salary increases for military personnel will likely be postponed until September, raising concerns among troops.
Requirements for Receiving Military Pay
Military compensation expert Yuriy Ayvazyan has clarified that the primary basis for pay calculations is not simply the presence of a diploma in a personnel file. Instead, key factors include official staffing rosters, appointment and enrollment orders, payment establishment orders, rank assignment orders, and financial certificates or statements. He further explained:
'Therefore, grounds for recalculation exist if, for example, you were mistakenly paid as a non-commissioned officer or trainee rather than as an officer with an officer rank.' Yuriy Ayvazyan, military compensation expert
As a result, AFU service members have a legal right to these payments, but they must meet certain conditions and provide the required documentation. This issue remains highly relevant, as changes in service conditions and pay structures can significantly impact the well-being of military personnel.
Given the current situation, it is essential that service members fully understand their rights and responsibilities regarding financial compensation. Clarity and transparency in military pay—especially during active service—are critical, as they directly affect morale and combat readiness. Delays in salary increases may heighten anxiety among troops, potentially requiring additional government measures to support their welfare.
