Ukrainian Military Deminer Sentenced to Five Years for Selling Explosives and Theft.
Deminer Convicted for Illegally Selling Military Explosives
According to Novyny.live: A Ukrainian serviceman, mobilized as a deminer, has been sentenced to five years in prison by a court in the Odesa region. The conviction is for the illegal sale of explosives and for committing a separate theft. The court found him guilty of the unlawful handling of explosive substances and of burglary.
Investigators established that the soldier discovered three blocks of TNT, each weighing 400 grams, which he subsequently sold for 5,000 hryvnias (approximately $125). In a separate incident, he stole a metal harrow valued at 3,680 hryvnias (around $90). The court imposed the five-year prison term and ordered him held in custody until the sentence becomes legally binding.
Severity of the Offenses
The court ruled that the explosives must be destroyed and the stolen property returned to its owner. This case underscores the gravity of offenses involving the illicit trafficking of explosives and theft, particularly within a military context. The illegal circulation of such materials poses a direct threat to public safety, which is why these cases are treated with the utmost seriousness by law enforcement.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the critical need for strict control and accountability within the armed forces, especially concerning munitions. It highlights that violations of defense sector laws carry severe consequences, aiming to deter others from similar misconduct.
