Sale of a newborn in Mykolayiv: what the couple spent the received money on

According to ТСН: Details of a horrific situation that occurred in Mykolayiv have become known, where a couple sold their newborn girl.

The police of Mykolayiv region recently reported the detention of a couple who sold their own child. Initially, they requested a deposit of 8 thousand hryvnias, and the total sale amount was 10 thousand dollars. According to law enforcement officials, the received funds were divided for their needs: the mother received 5 thousand hryvnias, and the father - 3 thousand. This information was confirmed by the spokesperson of the Mykolayiv region police, noting that

“The mother and father of the child wrote receipts stating that they committed to returning the newborn after birth.”

She also added that the decision to sell the child was made mutually while the woman was still pregnant. Both parents had previously had legal issues for illegal drug possession. Law enforcement officials reported that after the arrest, the couple showed no signs of remorse for their actions.

Trial process and verdict

The press service of the Central District Court of Mykolayiv reported that the 21-year-old mother and her 38-year-old partner, a military serviceman, have been arrested.

“The investigating judge of the Central District Court of Mykolayiv, Ivan Dirko, examined the petition regarding the 21-year-old woman and her 38-year-old partner, who were recognized as suspects in committing a criminal offense under part 3 of article 149 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.”
The couple planned to sell the child and found a buyer who acted under the control of law enforcement.

According to the case materials, following the birth of the child, the suspects received two advance payments totaling 8 thousand hryvnias, and after handing over the newborn - the rest of the money in 10 thousand dollars.

Reasons for decision making

During the court session, the mother of the girl explained that she could not provide adequate conditions for raising the child and wanted her to end up in a good family. She also mentioned that she had previously lost parental rights to another child.

The partner admitted his guilt and asked the court to allow him to be placed under house arrest. However, the court decided to keep the woman in custody with a bail of 332,800 hryvnias, and the man - with a bail of 665,600 hryvnias. The investigation is ongoing, and both parents could face up to 15 years in prison.

Sources among law enforcement indicate that the woman may have made the decision to sell the child due to financial difficulties.

“But at the same time, she admitted that she had used drugs not long ago - last year. Perhaps she wanted to get money specifically to buy drugs.”
It is known that her first child, who is now 2 years old, is in a foster family since the mother was deprived of parental rights.

The newborn left without a family was sent to a stationary facility, and the court will soon decide her future fate.

“It is quite possible that later the child may be taken in by a foster family.”

This tragic story once again highlights the problems that families may face in difficult life situations, including financial hardships and social challenges. We hope that the fate of the newborn will be resolved considering her best interests.
