The State of Military Registration in Ukraine

According to Novyny.live: In Ukraine, military registration for men begins in the year they turn 17 and continues until age 60. Removal from this register is only permitted when an individual's health condition makes them unfit for military service. This system has created a complex legal situation for some citizens whose records date back to the Soviet era. A citizen who was removed from the military register before Ukraine's independence in 1991 has a very slim chance of having their data entered into the modern 'Oberih' register, likely necessitating a court appeal.

One illustrative case involves a citizen who was deregistered prior to 1991 and resided in what is now Moldova. Attorney Yuriy Aivazian stated that the chances of such data being entered into the 'Oberih' register are virtually nonexistent. According to Aivazian,

"Based on the information you provided, the chances of the Territorial Recruitment Center's data being entered into the Register are zero."

Legal Implications and Consequences

The attorney warns that if an individual attempts to apply to the register, it will not prevent the creation of an electronic military record (e-VOD) or the need for litigation.

"If you take this step, you will not avoid the creation of an e-VOD and an appeal to the court,"
Aivazian emphasized. Therefore, the answer to the citizen's question is unequivocal: "So the answer to your question is that you must prepare for court immediately."

This scenario highlights the difficulties faced by individuals removed from the military register before 1991 and underscores the critical need for legal counsel in resolving military registration issues. The legal aspects of military registration can have significant consequences for citizens, especially given the current national context. Consequently, it is vital for those in similar situations to seek professional legal assistance to protect their rights.
