The USA plans negotiations to purchase Greenland: what is known about the meeting.
According to ТСН: The U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed the intention of President Donald Trump's administration to buy Greenland and announced a scheduled meeting with representatives of Denmark.
In response to reporters' questions about the delay in negotiations with the Danish side, Rubio noted that the discussions will take place soon.
"I will meet with them next week. We will have those discussions then, but today I have nothing more to add to this," said the official.
When asked about the possibility of military intervention by the U.S., Rubio replied:
"I am not here to talk about Denmark or military intervention. I will meet with them next week."
Plans to purchase Greenland
The Secretary of State also mentioned the U.S. plans to buy the island, emphasizing that this is a consistent position of Donald Trump.
"This has always been the President's intention from the very beginning. He mentioned this very early on. So there is nothing new here. He talked about it in his first term. And he is not the first U.S. president to study or consider the possibility of buying Greenland. There is interest," Rubio emphasized.
According to the Secretary of State, the idea of acquiring the territory has historical roots, and he has already reminded American legislators about this.
"I just reminded them of the fact that not only Truman wanted to do this, but President Trump has been talking about it since his first term," he concluded.
It is worth noting that earlier Rubio stated that America does not plan to use force to establish control over Greenland.
This news underscores the ongoing interest of the U.S. in Greenland, which has existed under previous administrations as well. The intent to purchase this island reflects Washington's strategic plans in the Arctic region, which may have serious geopolitical consequences. It will be interesting to see what the results of the upcoming negotiations with Denmark will be and whether they will impact these plans.
