50,000 AI Songs Daily on Deezer: How AI is Changing Music.
The Rise of AI-Generated Music
According to Vox: According to the French music streaming service Deezer, about 50,000 songs created solely by artificial intelligence are uploaded to their platform every day. While not all of these tracks will gain popularity, some of them received millions of listens last year.
This raises the question: what will our music look like in the future, saturated with sounds created by artificial intelligence?
An Experiment with AI-Generated Music
Deni Béchard, a senior science journalist, listened only to AI-generated music using the Suno app for a month. He explains that this experiment aimed to critically reflect on how we might interact with such music in the future.
Béchard shared the results of his observations on the program Today, Explained, noting that:
“I realized that a lot of the music I listen to is commercially processed, and I don't feel it personally, so in this context, music created by AI doesn’t feel very different.”
Reflections on AI Art
During the journalist's experiment, he was asked if he could distinguish songs created by humans from those made by AI:
“No, I don't think I could.”
This indicates that the technology has advanced significantly. Béchard noticed that popular AI songs have a very 'soulful' and 'raw' quality, creating a sense of authenticity:
“These songs really evoke the feeling that a person has suffered and experienced something real.”
Interaction and the Future of Music
In his reflections, Béchard also noted:
“I suspect that in the next 10-20 years, many teenagers will look back at our current discussions and ask the question: 'What are these people talking about?' This will be absolutely normal.”
He hopes that questions about copyright and protection for artists will remain relevant, but he believes we will quickly adapt to new realities.
The rise of AI-generated music marks an important stage in the evolution of the music industry. We see that technology is changing not only how we produce music but also our perception of art as a whole. This emphasizes the importance of authentic sound and emotion in a world where artificial intelligence becomes a sensitive partner in the creative process.
