New Rules for Bereaved Military Families: Key Changes to Compensation Effective February 1, 2025.
Revisions to the Financial Aid Process
According to Novyny.live: Starting February 1, 2025, Ukraine will implement new procedures for calculating and disbursing financial aid to the immediate relatives of deceased military personnel. These reforms specifically alter the process for obtaining the one-time monetary compensation granted to the families of fallen defenders. This update is part of ongoing adjustments to the social support system for those affected by the war.
Immediate relatives of a deceased service member are entitled to a one-time financial payment. Crucially, a service member has the right to personally designate the recipient of these funds in the event of their death. If no such personal instruction exists, the right to compensation passes to close relatives in the first and second order of succession. It is important to note that the date of the service member's death is not a factor; the key moment is when the application is submitted and the right to the payment is formally established.
New Payment Regulations
Under the new regulations, only 50% of the payment can be received in any case. As expert Yurii Aivazian noted,
“You will only be able to receive 50% of the payments in any case, as stipulated by the amendments to the law.”These changes aim to simplify the calculation and disbursement procedure. However, it is vital for the families of the deceased to be fully aware of the new terms to avoid misunderstandings during the application process for financial aid.
The legislative amendments represent a significant step in supporting the families of fallen soldiers by establishing clear rules for aid allocation. However, the reduction of the payout to 50% raises questions about the level of financial support for relatives during a difficult time. It is essential for the authorities to actively communicate these new conditions to prevent confusion among those eligible for assistance.
