Starting from October 12, Ukrainians will face a new procedure at the border with the EU: what will change.
Starting from October 12, 2025, changes regarding border crossings into the EU for Ukrainian citizens will come into effect. Currently, drivers and passengers will be required to exit the vehicle for verification and biometric data collection. This information was reported by 'Glavkom' citing the Embassy of Ukraine in Poland.
According to inkorr.com: The European Union is introducing an Electronic Entry/Exit System (EES), which will automatically register all border crossings into the EU by citizens from third countries, including Ukraine.
- All passengers of vehicles will have to exit the cars to undergo the biometric procedure.
- The procedure for travelers by train may vary depending on the crossing point.
- Refusing to provide biometric data may result in denial of entry.
Purpose and benefits of the changes
These changes are being implemented to improve control over compliance with EU residency rules, prevent the use of forged documents, and enhance security in Schengen countries.
Moreover, salary levels in different EU countries vary significantly. According to Eurostat, the best working conditions are offered by Luxembourg, Belgium, and Denmark. There are also differences in average salaries across various sectors: in business economics, it can be 34.2 euros per hour, while in industry – up to 39.8 euros per hour.

This new system aims to enhance control and ensure security in the European Union, as well as prevent violations of residency conditions in the Schengen zone. Additionally, the new legislation contains information about salaries in different EU countries, which may be useful for Ukrainians planning to find work in Europe.
The changes in border crossing rules starting from October 12, 2025, are significant for Ukrainians planning trips to the EU. The EES system lays the groundwork for more effective control. It is also important to consider the differences in earnings in various EU countries, which may be a decisive factor for those looking for jobs abroad.
