Prohibited species of animals for home keeping
The list of prohibited species of animals for home keeping in Ukraine includes large predators, primates, venomous snakes and spiders, as well as crocodiles, certain types of birds, and marine animals. These animals are dangerous to humans and require special living conditions that an ordinary apartment cannot provide.
The law on animal protection and its requirements
The Law of Ukraine 'On the Protection of Animals from Cruel Treatment' contains rules for keeping and standards for animals. This law prohibits cruel treatment of animals, keeping wild animals in circuses or other entertainment venues, as well as using them for attractions in hotels or restaurants.
Responsibility for violations of legislation
Administrative and criminal sanctions are provided for violations of the rules for keeping and caring for animals. Fines can reach up to 5,100 hryvnias, and in the case of the animal's death—up to 3 years in prison. Keeping prohibited species of animals may also lead to the confiscation of animals for the state or shelter.
