According to Novyny.live: Localized water contamination has been detected in the Dniester River and the Dniester Estuary in the Odesa region, following a combined missile and drone strike by the Russian Federation targeting the Dniester Hydroelectric Power Plant. Elevated concentrations of phosphates and petroleum products have been recorded as a result. Environmental authorities are closely monitoring the situation to contain the spread of pollutants.

Extent of Pollution and Response Measures

The pollution patches measure approximately 6 meters in length and up to 70 meters in width. To prevent further dispersion of contaminants, boom barriers have been deployed along the riverbed and near Odesa's water intake channel. Concerns also extend to the condition of the Repida lock dam at the 97th kilometer of the Danube River. The protective covering on the riverbank slope has been compromised, and the dam's surface is damaged over a stretch of about 60 meters. These issues heighten risks to both the ecosystem and the nearly 100,000 people who rely on water from artesian wells in the area.
