Zabuzhko criticized Lina Kostenko: the reaction of social networks to the scandal.
After sharp criticism from writer Oksana Zabuzhko, more and more is being said about the role of Lina Kostenko in Ukrainian literature. Some admire Zabuzhko and ignore her words about Kostenko. Others, on the contrary, accuse Zabuzhko of envy and remind of the disputes from her life.
In her latest interview, Zabuzhko noted that in her youth, Kostenko had great authority among many aspiring writers. And even now she has a significant influence on the literary world. About Kostenko, Zabuzhko said: "Today you got a weak reflection of the absolute power she had in the 80s. In the years of my literary youth, she was, well, I don't know, a comrade Stalin in miniature. What she says, goes."
The Facebook community has split into two sides. Many people defend Kostenko, explaining that she has widespread fame and is known to all Ukrainians, and also note that she has never made such harsh statements about her colleagues. But there are also those who emphasize the difference in eras and worldviews between these two writers.
Some users also remind that the exile of Oksana Zabuzhko's father during Stalin's times might explain her attitude towards Kostenko. But under the interview video on YouTube, the majority of users support Zabuzhko and thank her for the conversation.
Ukrainian writer Andriy Kokotyukha also reacted to Zabuzhko's criticism. He recalled how Zabuzhko, in one of her novels, called Kostenko a "bourgeois hag", to which Kostenko replied that Zabuzhko was a "barren young woman". He also adds that everyone can have their own opinion, but from Zabuzhko's criticism, one can receive a lot of negative comments.
Lina Kostenko has not yet commented on this.
Recall that Oksana Zabuzhko sharply spoke about the influence of Lina Kostenko on literature during Soviet times.
